Spencer Glacier Crust Ski - April 10th, 2010
The crust ski season has been somewhat spotty so far this year. I've had one good trip - Spencer Glacier round-trip from Portage Valley on April 10th - that's it. This is a fabulous ski for anybody energetic enough to venture this far up the Placer river valley; and well worth it as the pictures can testify.
While I am waiting on the crust ski season to materialize, I have been putting in the miles at Hillside and Kincaid. With prime conditions all season (November - April), I have skied more than 100 days and logged more than 2500 km on skis this season. A very good ski season indeed!
First picture shows the approach to the Spencer glacier with the terminal lake in the foreground.
Amazing ice formations and ice caves at the toe of the Spencer glacier.
Nobody said self-portraits were easy!
